Tuesday, July 4th, 2017: Firecracker 5000 (5k)

Achilles was a beneficiary of this race, which took place at Opry Mills Mall. The race began at 7:00 am at Entrance 1, and was a flat modified double-loop next to the Opryland Hotel. And bonus, Chuy’s provided yummy food after the event!



Monday, June 12, 2017, Chipotle Fundraiser:

Chipotle LogoOn Monday, June 12th, Achilles Nashville participated in a fundraiser at the Chipotle in Green Hills (3900 Hillsboro Pike, Ste 28, Nashville 37215). Between 5 p.m. and 9 p.m., 50% of the proceeds benefitted Achilles, whether people picked up dinner to go or hung around to eat it there. Achilles earned $700 in this fundraiser! Fleet Feet Green Hills is right next door to Chipotle and has their Monday Night Green Hills Run Club at 6:00 p.m. (2.8 to 4-mile routes generally available)…So many of the participants from GHRC came for a RUN and dinner fun at Chipotle afterward!!! Tuesday, June 6, 2017: Farm Burger

Achilles hosted a fundraiser at Farm Burger where Achilles received 10% of all proceeds from the evening. Achilles friends and family came out for drinks and burgers and a good time was had by all! Achilles raised approximately $300 at this yummy fundraiser.


Saturday, May 20, 2017: Geist Half Marathon Indianapolis, Indiana

Geist Half Marathon logoLizzy Solomon took her handcycle to the streets of Indy to participate in the 10th anniversary of the Geist Lake Half Marathon.  Lizzy was accompanied on this run by Achilles Volunteer Guides Lauren Kollinger, Susie Bosquet, and Amanda Hachey. Lizzy’s mom, Amy Harris, ran the Geist and has been a participant for the past 10 years. This run goes around the beautiful Geist Lake and surrounding area. Following the run, there was some paddle boarding, jet skiing, and kayaking on the lake.


Sunday, May 14, 2017:  Disney Tinkerbell Half Marathon, Anaheim, CA

Tinkerl Bell 1/2 Half marathon logoIt’s the stuff dreams are made of – Achilles athlete Chassity Choate and her guide Klare Essad participated in this extraordinary half marathon that will took them through NeverLand in the spectacular Disneyland® Resort, and along the colorful streets of Anaheim. After the run, they enjoyed a day or two in the park.



Saturday, April 29, 2017: St. Jude Rock ‘n’ Roll Nashville Marathon & 1/2 Marathon

Guide Olaf (on the left) Athlete Michael( on the left) at the finish line of the Rock and Roll MarathonAchilles athletes and guides were out in full force for these races.  Pictured here is Michael Roberts and Olaf Wasternack.  This was Michael’s very first half marathon and he was fast enough to complete it in a time of 1:43:57!  Jay Denning also participated in the racing chair division and completed his first half marathon in a time of 1:34:06!  Congratulations to all of our Achilles Nashville athletes and volunteer guides!





Monday, April 17, 2017: Boston Marathon

Guide Harvey Freedman (on left), Athlete Stephanie Zundel (in the middle), Guide Amy Harris (on rightAchilles International – Nashville was proud to send an athlete to compete in the 121st running of the Boston Marathon on April 17, 2017. Stephanie Zundel, one of our visually impaired athletes, qualified for Boston after completing the NYC Marathon in November 2017, her 1st ever marathon. Accompanying Stephanie were her guides Amy Harris and Harvey Freeman. Tony Grossi from Achilles Nashville also participated in the Boston Marathon as did board member and volunteer guide, Melanie Yappen.


Saturday, April 8, 2017 : NBA Young Lawyers Division 14th Annual LogicForce Race Judicata

Achilles International – Nashville was a beneficiary along with our friends at ABLE Youth for the NBA Young Lawyers Division 14th Annual LogicForce Race Judicata. This run offered a 5K and a 10K, both USATF certified flat out-and-back courses along the Harpeth River Greenway at Edwin Warner Park. The races began at Shelter #11 in Edwin Warner Park. A wheelchair start for both races began at 7:55 a.m. followed by runners at 8:00 AM.
